Infosys BPO acquires US insurance business process solutions provider

Indian IT services vendor Infosys Technologies' business process outsourcing subsidiary has agreed to acquire Atlanta-based business process solutions provider McCamish Systems for a total consideration of $58m.
It plans to pay $38m upfront and pay an additional $20m when McCamish Systems achieves certain financial targets.
McCamish Systems provides solutions to the insurance and financial services industries leveraging their proprietary VPAS, PMACS and Deferral+ platforms.

U.S. stocks closed mixed Friday, with tech shares outpacing the broader market in light trading.
On Friday, the 30-stock Dow Jones industrial average ended lower by 36.65 points, or 0.45%, at 8,146.52.
On the New York Stock Exchange, 15 stocks were lower in price for every 14 that were higher.

India Budget Disappoints Investors

Trapped between a stuttering economy and a spiraling deficit, India's newly reelected government of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh decided on July 6 to toe a middle path, with Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee presenting a budget that disappointed an over-eager stock market and provided little clarity on the future of reforms that have driven the country's economic growth in the past.
Instead, the government decided to tinker with tax rates, pledge increased spending in infrastructure, and borrow heavily from domestic markets to spend in rural areas, which make up more than 60% of India's population and 46% of its gross domestic product.
Investors immediately showed their disappointment.

Until a game-changing election on May 16, India had been a laggard among Asia's markets, which have been advancing at a fairly strong clip since earlier this year.
The news drove the Indian equity benchmark Sensitive Index, or Sensex, up 17.3% on May 18 and has people taking a closer look at investment opportunities on the subcontinent.
Those opportunities are abundant, ranging from financial services to infrastructure to consumer goods and private education, says William Nobrega, a managing partner at Miami-based Conrad Group, which provides business consulting and investment banking services.

Infosys Q4 Sales Drop to $1.1 Billion As Outsourcing Demand Falters

Indian IT services vendor Infosys Technologies has reported a 3% increase in net income to $321m for the fourth quarter 2009, compared to $313m in the year-ago quarter, on revenue down 2% at $1.12 billion.
The decrease in revenue was attributed to the decline in outsourcing demand from overseas clients due to the global economic downturn.
The company added 37 clients during the quarter.

Infy Beats US Turmoil With 33% Gain in Net

BANGALORE: Finally, a spot of relief in an otherwise gloomy market.
Infosys Technologies on Tuesday announced that its net profit in the third quarter rose by 33%, higher than what many analysts had anticipated.
The company's stock price rose by over 7% over the day on the back of the results, and the expectation that the troubles in Satyam Computer would encourage customers to move to companies like Infosys that have a reputation for good corporate governance.

Infosys Posts Strong Q3

IT services company Infosys Technologies has reported a 33% increase in net income to $336m for the third quarter 2009, compared to net income of $252m in the year-ago quarter, on revenue up 35% at $1.18 billion.
Operating profit grew 46% to $416m from $285m in the same quarter last year.
The India-based company said revenue from financial services grew 29% year-on-year to $414m, while manufacturing services revenue surged 82% to $232m, and telecom services revenue rose 7.5% to $198.6m.

Jan. 13--Accenture and IBM could be winners from the massive fraud at Indian outsourcing firm Satyam.
Companies seeking to outsource operations such as handling customer calls or testing software may turn to the multinational firms due to worries about working with smaller Indian companies.
But Indian computer services company Infosys Technologies, which unveiled a 33 percent third-quarter profit rise today, also expects to benefit.

Jan. 13--SONY SHARES TUMBLE: Sony shares fell sharply on Tuesday amid reports that the electronics giant is set to post its first annual operating loss in 14 years because of a drop in demand and a strong yen, reported AFP.
Sony is expected to post an operating loss of 100 billion yen ($1.12bn) for the financial year to March 2009, the Nikkei business daily reported.
INFOSYS Q3 PROFIT UP 33 PERCENT: Infosys Technologies, India's No.2 software services exporter, reported a one-third rise in quarterly profit on Tuesday, but cut its annual forecast, Reuters has reported.
