Are Tech Stocks Expensive?

This weekend we ran the Alert HQ process and generated the list of Trend Leaders. These stocks and ETFs are distinguished by strong recent performance. Using daily data, we look for stocks that are over their 50-day moving average. We then use three different technical indicators to determine trend: Aroon, DMI and MACD. All three indicators must be registering strong readings in order for a stock or ETF to make the list of Trend Leaders. Below we present those stocks from the Tech sector that made this week's list. Data is as of the close on Friday, 3/20/09. On this Friday the 13th Eurostat released that GDP shrank in both the Eurozone and the EU27 in Q4/08 by 1.5% QOQ (quarter-on-quarter.) In comparison to Q4/07 GDP shrank by 1.2% in the Eurozone and by 1.1% in the EU27.
Iron Mountain a Bit Steep - Analyst Blog

Iron Mountain Inc. (IRM), based in Boston, Massachusetts, is a leading provider of information protection and storage services in North America, Latin America, Europe and the Pacific Rim. We remain encouraged by the strength of the company's information protection and storage services business, which reported its 79th consecutive quarter of increased revenues in the third quarter. However, Iron Mountain lowered its guidance for fiscal 2008 due to significant strengthening of the U.S. dollar against the major currencies. The company's preliminary guidance for fiscal 2009 is also disappointing. While positive on the stock, we have concerns regarding the high valuation and dependence on large acquisitions for growth. We therefore maintain our Hold recommendation on the shares. Iron Mountain is currently trading at a P/E multiple of 28.0x[More...]

Historic Day Bouncers

“Historic day” definitely refers to the global coordinated interest rate cut by the U.S., England, Europe, and China- the four most influential economies of our day. I was joking on my Twitter feed how exciting it was that China joined the “Allied Forces.” Yeah, the rate cuts probably took the world a step back from the cliff of a worldwide deep recession, but the positive benefits of the cuts, if any, probably won’t be felt for months and months. What mattered more for me today, and probably for those who monitor their investment accounts closely, it was just good to have a day where we weren’t in freefall.[More...]

Iron Mountain Reports Second Quarter 2009 Financial Results

Iron Mountain Incorporated , the global leader in information management services, today reported its financial results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2009, announcing strong reported operating income and operating income before depreciation and amortization growth of 11% and 10%, respectively, compared to the second quarter of 2008. Excluding impacts from asset gains and losses, operating income and OIBDA grew 13% and 11%, respectively, compared to the prior year period. These results were supported by solid core revenue internal growth of 6%, which more than offset forecasted weakness in complementary service internal revenue growth. As expected, the significant year-over-year weakening of major foreign currencies against the U.S. dollar led by the British pound, the Euro and the Canadian dollar reduced the Company's reported revenue and OIBDA by 7% compared to the second quarter of 2008. Driven by increased cash flows from operations and modest capital expenditures, the Company ended the quarter with greater liquidity comprised of cash and availability under its revolving credit facility of more than $880 million.[More...]
