Gartner Acquires AMR - A Comment On IT Spending?

Gartner, Inc. announced today an all-cash offer of $64 million for competitor AMR Research. Gartner (NYSE: IT; MGI-X: NR), expects the deal to close by the end of December, and will add AMR’s approximately $40 million in revenue to Gartner’s industry leading $1.2 billion (TTM) top line. Yesterday,Nokia Corp. (NOK)?introduced its first high-end 3G smart-phone N900 based on Linux open source software. This converged mobile device provides a personal computer-like experience to users and will run on the Linux-based Maeme 5 software. This 3G handset will have a high-resolution WVGA touch screen and incorporate a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. It will be available in select markets from October for 500 Euros. Traditionally, all Nokia handsets have used the Symbian operating system, which is now fully controlled by Nokia. The key verticals for IBM in the Indian market are infrastructure, such as construction and steel; telecom; industrial; energy and utilities. It also witnesses growth in the insurance and banking, travel and transportation, and the government spaces. We therefore favor IBM for its wide range of products and large international exposure. Global Med Technologies (OTC: GLOB) is trading well below its intrinsic valuation, according to at least one activist hedge fund. Victory Park Capital principal Richard Levy insisted in a letter to the board that if the equity markets do not reflect the value of the company then it is incumbent upon the board to take action to realize that value for shareholders. As a result, Victory Park recommended one of two options: Publicly auction the company for sale to a strategic or financial buyer. Pursue a buyout transaction led by Victory Capital.
