Best Perfomers Over Last Quarter

It is a moot point looking at weekly winners this week; just a handful of stocks moving up led by such growers as Campbell Soup (CPB) aka "people will still need to eat soup if nothing else" trade. So instead I am going to look at the best and worst performers the past 3 months. In this post we have every stock over $1.25B in market cap returning 15%+ (115 stocks) Now keep in mind the data is a bit misleading because 3 months ago at this time we were in the throes of another painful correction, in a series of step ladders down. About 90 days ago Fannie and Freddie and Lehman were falling off a cliff, and we were just over a week away from Hank Paulson going to Congress to create a plan to backup Fannie/Freddie. So this was a "bottom" and the financials rallied hard for the next 6-7 weeks - Fannie/Freddie of course were officially taken over within 2 months from that point.<br[More...]

Best Performing Stocks the past Month

Below is a list of the best performing stocks of the past month. I always like to look at these lists to see what the market is favoring, try to find some new ideas, and to see how stocks I favor do in the big scope of things.Since I focus mostly on mid caps and large caps I focused on market capitalizations of $2 billion or greater, trading at least 100,000 shares a day, and a price of at least $10. Using a minimum return of 12% for the past month, the list generated 179 names. Keep in mind the S&P 500 is up around 2.5% in that same time frame, and if not for Friday's big rally it would of been closer to 1.2%. I will highlight in green the fund holdings, and in blue stocks of interest to me (either considering to add to the fund, a stock that has been discussed a lot, or past holdings)&lt[More...]

Oct. 12--PANAMA CITY, Fla. -- Two things usually are true with a planned highway: It will be expensive, and it will take a while to build.

Such is the case with Gulf Coast Parkway, a proposed state road that would connect U.S. 231 north of Panama City to U.S. 98 east of Mexico Beach, providing a bypass of the Tyndall Air Force Base.

The glacially moving creation process continues this week with a meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Springfield Community Center and another Oct. 20 in Port St. Joe.
