Telecom Industry - Maintain Positive Outlook (Upgraded From Neutral in March 2009) Based on extreme industry weakness in late 2008 and early 2009, we believe valuation levels now reflect remedial conditions in the economy. Depressed stock prices foster improved investment entry points more favorable at this juncture should stimulus plans, restricted operating expenses and higher earnings level result along with sustainable purchasing activity. Stocks I Bought Recently

I mentioned early this month that I bought 600 shares of Citigroup (C) on the day when the stock was traded below $1 for the first time ever. From where the stock is traded now (it closed at $3.08/share on March 18, 2009), it seems that my bet is a good one, even though I didn’t get my shares at the lowest price. And C isn’t the only stock I bought recently. In fact, I see the recent sharp decline of stocks as an opportunity to buy. Since February, I have added $4,000 new money into my Scottrade account and used to money to buy more stocks.In addition to Citi, I also snapped up 222 shares of Bank of America (BAC) last month when the stock was hammered by fears of nationalization. H.K. Opens First Bullion Depository

Sep. 2--HONG KONG -- Hong Kong's first precious metals depository opened Wednesday where precious metals such as gold, silver and platinum can be stored and traded, Financial Secretary John Tsang said.
The 340-square-meter depository, located at Hong Kong International Airport on Chek Lap Kok island, will conduct storage and physical settlement activities for the Mercantile Exchange, central banks, commodity exchanges, bullion banks, precious metal refineries and issuers of exchange traded funds.
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority is also planning to transfer its physical gold reserves stored in Britain to the depository later this year, depository director Raymond Lai said.

Asia Struggles to Spend Its Way Out of Gloom, Reports

Feb. 21--HONG KONG -- Asians should raid their piggy banks and go shopping if the region wants to dodge the worst fallout from the global crisis, but analysts doubt entrenched saving habits can be broken.
As the global slowdown has spread across the region in the past few months, the call from economists for Asia to boost sluggish consumer spending has reached a crescendo.
"I think an important outcome of this global crisis is you will see Asia finally 'get religion' of internal private consumption -- the piece that was missing from the response to the financial crisis of 1997-98," said Stephen Roach, chairman of Morgan Stanley Asia.

MOSCOW _ The South Korean government said on Monday that the latest photos released by North Korea of leader Kim Jong-il do not prove he is in good health.
The South Korean and U.S. intelligence agencies have said Kim, 66, may have suffered a stroke in August.
Kim Jong-il has ruled North Korea since 1994, when he succeeded his late father Kim Il-sung, the communist state's founder.

MOSCOW _ Somali pirates have released Bunga Melati 2, a Malaysian oil tanker hijacked in August, the Asian country's Bernama news agency said on Tuesday, citing defense ministry sources.
The vessel and its crew of 29 Malaysian and 10 Philippine nationals, was hijacked in the Gulf of Aden on August 19.
MOSCOW _ A Russian Delta-III class ballistic missile submarine has successfully sailed from a naval base in northern Russia to the Pacific Ocean under the Arctic ice floe, a Navy spokesman said on Tuesday.
