Lincoln National (NYSE:LNC): Upgraded To Outperform At CSFB

Lincoln National (NYSE:LNC) is getting positive vibes from several tier-1 firms this morning: - CSFB is upgrading their rating to Outperform from Neutral and moving their price tgt to $24 (prev. $21). The upgrade comes following LNC’s capital raise and the announced plans to issue preferred stock to the US Treasury. While the planned $950 million of CPP leaves a clear overhang on the shares, given the likelihood of a future equity raise to repay the CPP, the firm thinks the stock is trading at too large of a discount relative to the risk of future dilution and other potential franchise risks associated with having the government as a key stakeholder. All three major indexes were down for today and the week, with the S&P down 1.14% today. The NASDAQ was down 0.54% to close at 1680.14, with the Dow dropped 0.75% closing at 8268.64. Yields on the treasury fell to 3.136% as the price on the 10-year was up. The price of crude oil fell to settle at $56.34, while gold headed in the opposite direction settling up at $931.30. Lincoln Nat'L Selling Dela. Investments for $428M

Aug. 19--Shares of Lincoln National Corp. rose today after an Australian financial services firm agreed to buy Lincoln's asset-management unit, Delaware Investments, for $428 million in cash.
In another sign of tough economic times, Radnor-based Lincoln National, which markets itself as Lincoln Financial Group, agreed to sell Delaware Investments to Sydney-based Macquarie Group Ltd. in order to focus on its core insurance and retirement businesses.
Delaware Investments will remain based in Philadelphia.
