Looking at tons of charts this weekend, there is similar patterns on various charts. The majority of stocks have declined the past 3 days and are nearing support of their previous break out highs. The patterns look to SPX as it has the potential to move to test its August highs, but has resistance above it from its breakout highs which it broke below.[More...]

Biggest Declines Among S&P

The following is a list of the S&P 500 firms where the analysts have been cutting their expectations for the current fiscal year the most over the last month. Most likely these firms reported disappointing earnings or gave negative guidance on their conference calls. Historically, you have not wanted to be invested in companies where the analysts who follow them most closely see the earnings prospects diminishing. Also, estimates in motion tend to remain in motion. The first bit of bad news is rarely the last (the cockroach theory). This means that the current expectations, even though down from last month, are probably still to high for these firms. To weed out anomalies, only those firms that are currently expected to earn more than $0.50 in 2009 are included and only those firms where there are a minimum of three estimates in the system. More Cash, Less Debt = Stock Market Gains?

Today there were a couple of posts about how tech stocks are currently especially attractive because they hold plenty of cash and tend to have little debt. Paul Kedrosky initially caught my eye with his post "Tech Cash is King" which in turn pointed me to a story on Bloomberg by Eric Martin. I ran a screen tonight that looked at both cash and debt. Specifically, I screened for a Price-to-Cash ratio under three, a Debt-to-Equity ratio under three and a Market Cap greater than $2.5 million. Based on these criteria, I obtained a list of 136 stocks. Judging from our list, it is absolutely true that many tech stocks do seem to have lots of cash and little debt. Oct. 23--A group of local parents got lessons in online safety Thursday evening through an event organized by Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway.
About 30 people gathered for a "Cyber Safe KY" presentation, one of a series of meetings statewide to teach parents how to monitor their children's Internet use.
Social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace are important and useful, but can also be hunting grounds for would-be criminals, said Conway and others, urging parents to closely watch their children's time online.
