Q2 Growth Report - Part 1

Today's Wall Street Journal had an article that asked the question "Can Rally Run without Revenue?" Is the revenue situation really that bad?

Let's take a quick look at some the data compiled through the Alert HQ process.

After each quarter's earnings season, I try to pull together what I am now calling the Growth Report. Part 1 compiles the list of stocks that have shown a year-over-year increase in both revenue and earnings AND a sequential quarter-over-quarter increase in both revenue and earnings. Given the severity of the economic downturn, very few companies have been able to to pull off this trick.

The following table presents a comparison of the last two quarters:

There’s nothing that I could say to start off this post that would clarify AAR’s position in their market right now better than what CEO David Storch said to start the 4th quarter and full year 2008 earnings conference call:“Based on questions we have been receiving over the last several weeks, we believe the market may not fully appreciate the spread of business we have here at AAR.In many quarters we are merely seen as an airline aftermarket provider. While that was more true earlier in the decade, today AAR is a much broader company servicing a wider customer base.”Therein lies the beauty of the diversification in AAR’s business, and their ability to leverage that business, even in tough times like now, to come out stro[More...]

Jun. 6--As summer temperatures rise, recreationists with disabilities from around the East Valley will take to the waters kayaking or air-conditioned gyms for basketball.

Programs like these used to be partially funded by Mesa, but that aid has largely dried up in the wake of a more than $60 million budget shortfall.

In Mesa, utilities as well as parks and recreation fees, will send residents digging ever deeper into their change purses as the city grapples with a budget deficit.

Mar. 20--The tax cap initiative on the April 7 city ballot is ambiguously worded and may not pack the tax-shrinking power its authors intended, according to a citizens' commission appointed to advise the mayor and Assembly on budget matters.

Proposition 9 would put payments to city government from city-owned utilities and enterprises like the Anchorage Water and Wastewater Utility and Merrill Field back into the formula used to calculate the annual limit on property taxes.

That's the way the tax cap worked until former Mayor Mark Begich and the Assembly changed it in 2003.
