With the US equity market averages either probing or breaking down through their November lows, is it time to buy Phoenix stocks? MGIC Investment Corporation (MGIC) is the largest private mortgage insurer in the U.S., offering private mortgage insurance across the country, the District of Columbia, and in Puerto Rico through its subsidiary, Mortgage Guaranty Insurance Corporation (MGIC). MTG's core 3Q08 results were slightly worse than we anticpated. The results continued to be impacted by increases in both the number of delinquent loans and foreclosures due to a further decline of home prices and slowing of economy. Below is a list of all stocks returning >7% in the past week, and over $2 billion in market cap. Always interesting to see what is in favor, and when the market bounces where the money is flowing - the group below is sorted from highest to lowest returnMain themes that were winners last week were: solar, home builders, fertilizer, retail, coal, oil services, and infrastructure. The fund was represented very well - of the 52 long positions, 17 were represented in this group (I bolded the names) (note: PBR is represented by its very heavy weighting in Brazilian index ETF - EWZ).
