Long Odds For Apartment Owners In Vegas; Prices Down By At Least 60%

If you are investing in REITs right now, life is good. The US MSCI REIT index has doubled since hitting its lows in March, and in the second quarter Mid America (MAA) generated $.05/share in earnings from the sale of just one asset, a 36 year old, 96 unit apartment building in Grenada, Mississipi. Indeed, gambling on a little property in Grenada, Mississipi looks like a much safer bet right now than rolling the dice in Las Vegas, the gambling capital of the world.[More...]

Rio 2016: Guide To Investing In Brazil

There was a lot of talk about potential host cities for the Olympics lately and the politics associated. That talk died down after Brazil was awarded the honor of hosting. You may be asking “how does that relate to trading”…well my friend Raul of the Shocked Investor is about to make that connection. He has been researching the Brazilian stocks and options recently and more importantly ones traded on American exchanges. Enjoy the article and be sure to leave a comment with your thoughts.[More...]

An Australian Dollar Play on China’s Growth

An Australian Dollar Play on China’s Growth

Despite the continuing negative sentiment toward China from much of Wall Street, China’s remarkable economic growth continues unabated.

While Wall Street “experts” focus solely on the export-oriented eastern cities in China, they are missing the rapid growth occurring in other parts of China with the government’s “Go West” program.

And let’s not forget that within a few years, the size of China’s middle class will exceed the entire population of the United States.

However, there are still many investors who are not comfortable investing directly in China and buying Chinese[More...]

Back-To-Back Losing Sessions

The indices continued to move lower Tuesday, following up to the action late Friday and Monday. We’ve now had back-to-back downdays to start the week. We’d anticipated that, but also think the market’s headed even lower. The day started out with a gap down. A sharp move lower ensured, and then the indices stabilized in the 1588-90 zone the Nasdaq 100 and near 992-93 zone on S&P 500. They did try to stage an afternoon rally, and were the near the afternoon rally highs with about 15 minutes to go when they suddenly rolled over and plunged hard to take back some of those gains and close lower on the day. Net on the day the Dow was down 96.50 to 9241.45, the S&P 500 down 12.75 at 994.35, and the Nasdaq 100 down 15.74 at 1594.69. Advance-declines were decidedly negative by nearly 3 to 1 on New York and by about 2 ½ to 1 on Nasdaq. Up/down volume was 4 ½ to 1[More...]

Brazil is More Than Soccer and 'Carnival'

Many investors rarely think about Brazil as a place to put their investment dollars. They think Brazil is just a country that goes crazy over soccer and has a wild ‘Carnival’ every year in Rio. But Brazil is so much more. They may have the best economy in the Americas. Brazil has made great strides under current President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, commonly known as Lula. Lula took office on January 1, 2003 and he has, since being in office, run a very orthodox fiscal policy. The country has maintained fiscal and trade surpluses for the better part of his presidency. Brazil’s highly capable central bank has followed a very strong monetary policy. They have maintained high levels of real interest rates, which prevented the economy from overheating and creating an over-expansion of credit – unlike the policies of others like the Federal Reserve. In late April, the Brazilian central bank cut their interest rate from[More...]
