Logue wants air rules to face popular vote

Dec. 1--Assemblyman Dan Logue is looking to put AB 32, the 2006 state legislation meant to address emissions and global warming on a statewide basis, before voters next year.
Logue, who's joined with government reform measure veteran Ted Costa in the effort, said he wants a ballot measure next November that would tie implementation of AB 32 to the state unemployment rate.
If the measure Logue proposes makes the ballot and passes, AB 32 would be suspended until the state unemployment rate drops to 5.5 percent or lower for four consecutive quarters.

CHA moves forward with Fairmount development

Nov. 21--The Chattanooga Housing Authority is headed for a fall, Mayor Ron Littlefield says, and it's all due to the organization's stubbornness.
"The housing authority continues to run full tilt in the direction that might be headed toward the end of a cliff," Mr. Littlefield said.
Mr. Littlefield made the statements in response to the CHA's decision Friday to proceed with plans to renovate public housing at Fairmount Avenue Apartments in North Chattanooga, despite opposition from the mayor and homeowners who live near the street.

UV or filter, water will cost more

Nov. 18--Tacoma Water officials have refined the cost estimates for new drinking water treatment equipment, and they're about $10 million to $20 million higher than rough initial numbers.
It also is anticipating issues about the long-term safety of water from the Green River, the source of most of Tacoma's water.
The utility must choose between filtration and UV light disinfection.

Nov. 13--The break that natural gas customers in Minnesota are getting because of lower gas prices took a bit of a hit Thursday.
Xcel Energy Inc. asked the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (PUC) for a rate increase that would push a typical customer's bill up by $2.71 a month, or 3.9 percent.
The Minneapolis-based company, which serves 433,000 natural gas customers in Minnesota, said the increase is needed to pay for improvements and costs for distribution facilities and network.

Oil Risk Assessment Called Flawed: EXPERTS: Study is Too Dependent on Industry Cooperation, Panel Says.

Oct. 21--A panel of national scientific experts is raising serious concerns about the state-led, $5 million project to evaluate risks posed by Alaska's aging oil and gas infrastructure.
The study, initiated by former Gov. Sarah Palin, was triggered by recent spills, leaks and corrosion on the North Slope, including the 2006 spill that shut down half of Prudhoe Bay for weeks and resulted in multimillion-dollar penalties for BP, the Prudhoe operator.
But the National Academy of Sciences said in a 45-page report circulated Tuesday that the state's study -- as currently designed -- is unlikely to meet its own ambitious goals.

25,000 Without Power As Storm Batters Sacramento Region

Oct. 13--The wet and windy storm that's moved into Northern California has brought widespread electrical outages, roadway flooding and a growing number of reports of falling trees and limbs.
About 11:30 a.m., there were 25,000 customers without power in the Sacramento Municipal Utility District, said spokesman Chris Capra.
Sacramento registered 1.44 inches of rain as of 1:15 p.m. Wind gusts up to 45 mph were reported at Sacramento International Airport.

Many fans applauded the wedding of Pam (Jenna Fischer) and Jim (John Krasinski) on NBC's "The Office."
Jenna Fischer might be able to afford Vera Wang, but Pam Beesly wore David's Bridal.
And she was very considerate of her bridesmaid who only had to invest $145 in those silver dresses, which were kinda nice considering no one ever wears them again no matter what anybody says, also from David's Bridal.
