We talked about the 'staycation' (due to $4 gas) in the summer; now we are facing the staycation due to economy (but not to worry, people in staycations will soon revive the auto and housing market with the cheap money Uncle Ben B is handing to them) Yes... many more future workers for the steel toed future of the infrastructure laden Obamaconomy as hotels go half empty. Keep bidding up those commercial real estate stocks; certainly all that future unoccupied land won't effect supply/demand or prices. Not in the peaceful bliss of the Obamaconomy. I'd be worried about this but as the 2nd half recovery begins in 5 months, all our problems disappear into the ether. “The Trader” column out saying that the hotel boom may be peaking. Once-laggard hotel stocks have outperformed the mkt as investors catch on to the industry's pricing power, and the mismatch between frenzied demand and sluggish supply. Most sell-side analysts remain bullish, and further gains are possible, but the risk-reward profile has become less compelling. Businesses drive nearly 2/3 of hotel profits, and as Corporate America grapples with slower economic expansion, a less-accommodating credit mkt and record energy costs, greater scrutiny will come to bear on travel budgets. Big-spending financial-services firms, for one, won't be running up as many big hotel bills, and co’s will negotiate hard-to-keep room rates down. Sector Snap: Some lodging price targets raised

NEW YORK - A Goldman Sachs analyst boosted the price targets of some lodging companies Tuesday, citing slowing supply growth and an uptick in demand.
Supply growth also began to wane during the economic downturn, as hotels looked for ways to reduce expenses and avoid oversupply.
Kent increased Marriott International Inc.'s price target to $33 from $27.79 and lifted Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. to $43 from $35.

Hotel companies climb after economic news

CHICAGO - Shares of U.S hotel chains climbed Friday after a series of economic reports showed the recession may be drawing to a close and gave investors hope the hard-hit industry will see occupancy rates climb.
Early in the day, federal data showed that employers sharply scaled back layoffs in July.
Shares of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. climbed $3.32, or 12.7 percent, to $29.45 in afternoon trading.

Orient-Express Hotels Ltd. , owners or part-owners and managers of 50 luxury hotels, restaurants, tourist trains and river cruise properties operating in 25 countries, today announced its results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2009.
The net loss from continuing operations for the period was $2.6 million (loss of $0.04 per common share) compared with net earnings from continuing operations of $21.3 million ($0.50 per common share) in the second quarter of 2008.
