PCE Signs Agreement to Develop 25MW Hydroelectric Plant in Panama

Petaquilla Minerals's wholly owned subsidiary Panama Central Electrica, has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Generadora Hidroelectrica Santa Maria, for the development of a 25MW hydroelectric plant in the province of Veraguas in Panama.
The agreement establishes the general framework within which the partners Panama Central Electrica (PCE) and Generadora Hidroelectrica Santa Maria will work to advance the hydro project to the stage of a bankable feasibility study.
The partners will also work on updating the 1998 Environmental Impact Study which was previously approved by the Panamanian regulatory agencies in November 1998.

Petaquilla Minerals Ltd. ("Petaquilla" or the "Company") (TSX: PTQ)(OTCBB: PTQMF)(FRANKFURT: P7Z) is pleased to announce that Mr. Joao Manuel has been appointed as the Company's President and Chief Executive Officer.
Mr. Manuel joined the Company in December 2008 as its Chief Operating Officer after serving as the Chief Financial Officer of Petaquilla Copper Ltd. He will be leading the Company into its future production development phases and the continued exploration of the Petaquilla mining district where it owns a 100% interest in several large mineral concessions adjacent to the Molejon gold mine site.
Additionally he will focus on the creation of shareholder value through the spin-off of the Company's fully owned subsidiary, Petaquilla Infrastructure Ltd., which was incorporated for the construction, operation and management of infrastructure facilities required for the development of the mining industry in Panama.

Petaquilla Announces Delay in Filing Annual Financial Statements

Petaquilla Minerals Ltd. ("Petaquilla" or the "Company") (TSX: PTQ)(OTCBB: PTQMF)(FRANKFURT: P7Z) reports that it has been delayed in filing its annual financial statements, annual Management Discussion & Analysis related thereto and its Annual Information Form in Form 20-F, for the fiscal year ended May 31, 2009, by the required filing date under applicable Canadian securities laws, namely August 31, 2009.
The delay is attributable to additional time required for completion of the May 31, 2009 audit.
The Company has notified the British Columbia and Ontario securities regulators of the filing default and has applied for the issuance of a management cease trade order, which, until the Company has made the required filings, will prohibit trading in Petaquilla shares by Petaquilla directors, officers and other insiders of the Company and those who have been directors, officers or insiders of the Company during the period that the financial statements are being prepared.

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- -- 06/29/09 -- Petaquilla Minerals Ltd. is pleased to announce that its wholly-owned subsidiary Panama Central Electrica, S.A. has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Generadora Hidroelectrica Santa Maria, S.A. for the development of a 25MW hydroelectric plant in the Province of Veraguas, Panama. The MOU establishes the general framework within which the partners PCE and Santa Maria will work to advance the Hydro Project to the stage of a bankable feasibility study. The partners will also work on updating the 1998 Environmental Impact Study which was previously approved by the Panamanian regulatory agencies by way of resolution no. IA-012-99 in November of 1998. Upon obtaining a positive bankable feasibility study, the partners intend to commence construction in the fourth quarter of 2010 and ownership of the Hydro Project will be based on capital contribution. The partners will work in good faith to establish definitive terms for the venture as quickly as practicable. In addition, the MOU also contemplates the subsequent development of additional hydro power projects in the central provinces of Panama with cumulative potential of up to 100MW.[More...]

Subsequent testing of the gold room recovery processes resulted in a first gold pour on April 7, 2009. - Petaquilla Minerals Ltd. is pleased to announce that it has negotiated a private placement of Convertible Senior Secured Notes of up to US$40,000,000. Each Note in the principal amount of US$1,000 is convertible into common shares at CAD$2.25 per share.
