Run Up in PNOC-EC Share Price Amid Looming Privatization

Oct. 8--INVESTOR interest is rising for the listed exploration unit of state-owned Philippine National Oil Co. (PNOC) with its looming privatization causing the recent run-up in its share price, according to people familiar with the matter.
A ranking PNOC official said the company has yet to decide on when to sell a substantial block in PNOC-Exploration Corp. (PNOC-EC).
The price of PNOC-EC's B shares rose to a high of almost P25 per share last month from less than half in August.

Deal Running Third in Georgia GOP Primary, Poll Shows

Jun. 27--U.S. Rep. Nathan Deal, R-Ga., was 25 percentage points behind Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John Oxendine, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll on the Georgia Republican gubernatorial primary released Monday.
About 35 percent of the poll's respondents -- 463 likely Georgia Republican primary voters -- said they planned to vote for Mr. Oxendine, while 10 percent said they would vote for Rep. Deal.
State Sen. Eric Johnson, R-Savannah; state Rep. Austin Scott, R-Tifton; and businessman Ray McBerry each got 3 percent or less of the total, according to the poll.

PNOC Sets Sights on Geothermal Projects to Be Offered By Govt

May 28--Pete Maniego, PNOC-Renewables Corp. (PNOC-RC) president said the company would participate in the Philippine Energy Contracting Round for geothermal projects scheduled in the third quarter this year.
PNOC-RC is the recently established renewable energy arm of PNOC, which is looking to diversify its portfolio in the power sector following government's privatization of its geothermal unit, Energy Development Corp. (EDC) last year.
The Lopez group, through Red Vulcan Holdings Corp., won the bid for EDC.

N. Augusta is Seeking $800K for Intersection

Apr. 20--The City of North Augusta is looking for roughly $800,000 from Aiken County's capital projects fund for intersection improvements along Walnut Lane and U.S. 25.
Aiken County Council is set to look at the issue at its Tuesday meeting.
City Administrator Sam Bennett said that, at the end of the I-520 project, the widening of both roads and installing turn lanes would help relieve traffic congestion that clogs the area during peak periods.

Sirens Are Ordered for County

Jan. 15--DEWITT -- Emergency sirens to cover almost all of Clinton County's small towns and rural area were ordered at a meeting of the Emergency Management Commission here recently.
Total cost of the contract with RC Systems of Waterloo, to be not more than $300,000, was approved by the representatives of 10 incorporated cities: Andover, Calamus, Camanche, Charlotte, Clinton, DeWitt, Grand Mound, Lost Nation and Low Moor, plus the Clinton County Board of Supervisors and sheriff's office.
Kness also suggested that the cost of the alarm system and its maintenance be brought into the Emergency Management budget to ensure continuity.
