Easton seeks changes in deals with cable firms: Revised agreements might put council on TV, add fees to customers' bills.

Nov. 25--Changes might be coming to cable television in Easton, as officials and two cable companies hash out deals that might end up getting City Council on TV and putting more money in city coffers but also increasing some residents' cable bills.
But the agreements with both companies are outdated -- the most recent revision was in the 1980s -- and city officials believe Easton isn't getting all the fees and taxes it should.
"It's just a matter of making sure these companies are paying their fair share to the proper authorities," said Finance Director Chris Heagele, after a public hearing Tuesday on the franchise agreements.

Most Stocks of Local Interest Were Up in Third Quarter

Oct. 11--In the waning days of the worst of the economic decline since the Great Depression, most stocks in companies with strong presence in Northeast Pennsylvania were up in the third quarter.
Of the 71 publicly traded companies tracked by Business Weekly, financial companies topped the bottom of the list with the biggest declines.
The biggest declines were Dunmore-based community bank First National Community Bancorp Inc., which, through some board members, found itself tangentially associated with controversies.

RCN Q1 Net Loss Declines

US-based broadband services provider RCN Corporation has posted a net loss of $9.6 million for the first quarter ended March 31, 2009, compared to a net loss of $26.2 in the first quarter of 2008.
Michael Sicoli, CFO of RCN, said: "RCN's careful planning and execution paid off in the first quarter, resulting in year-over-year customer, revenue and EBITDA gains.
We remain comfortable with our liquidity position, which as of March 31 includes over $71 million in cash and short-term investments, no significant debt maturities until 2014 and leverage levels that remain below our 2009 covenant threshold.
