Many investors, including myself, feel that the market is due for a correction. Some predict with the increased national debt, weaker dollar and a Congress unwilling to grasp both, even worse things may occur that will effect our standard of living now and, especially, in the future. One sector that may withstand a negative outlook are food processors. I used a computer screen to isolate those with anticipated growth of 10-25% next year. All appear stable and quite a few are international in scope. I must admit to having several obscure companies grace my computer screen. I did investigate all of them to a certain degree and without exception they look quite acceptable for investment consideration. Sanderson Farms (SAFM) is one of the premier poultry producing companies in the United States with $1.72 billion in sales last year. Sanderson Farms (SAFM) is the 4th largest poultry processing company in the U.S. The improved efficiencies at the company's poultry complexes in Georgia and Mississippi, along with the new facility in Waco, Texas, should improve unit operating costs and increase production levels in fiscal 2009. However, grain costs increased substantially in fiscal 2008 resulting in a loss. Even though grain prices have declined, the Hold rating is maintained. Due to the company's volatile earnings and losses reported in fiscal 2006 and 2008, the stock is best valued on a price-to-sales basis. During the last five years, the stock has traded in the range of 0.26 to 0.94 times sales. Welcome back from the weekend! As the rest of the market returns from the holiday break, we should see more volume and volatility creep back into stocks. Only tomorrow will tell as to whether or not this is a positive or a negative for stock prices. At the moment, futures prices are trading slightly lower. The Dow is off by 44 points, the S&P down 5 points, and the Nasdaq is down 7 points. Crude oil is up another buck, trading at $47.30. Lenoir County Unemployment Rate Dropped in September

Oct. 27--Lenoir County's unemployment rate dropped during September but remained above the state average for the same period.
The unemployment rate for Lenoir County was 11.4 percent during September, down from 11.7 percent during August, according to the Employment Security Commission of North Carolina.
Local and state officials said the unemployment rates remain very high in North Carolina.
