Gold Participation and Income Fund Announces Exchange Ratios

TORONTO, July 20 /CNW/ - Gold Participation and Income Fund (the "Fund"), a closed-end investment trust designed to provide investors with Canadian-dollar exposure to the long-term performance of gold bullion and gold equity securities while providing a monthly distribution stream and mitigating downside risk, is pleased to announce the exchange ratios for the Fund's exchange option (the "Exchange Option") with respect to its initial public offering.
Under the Exchange Option, prospective purchasers had the opportunity to exchange Shares of SPDR Gold Trust and freely- tradeable listed securities of issuers in the S&P/TSX Global Gold Index or the S&P/TSX 60 Index (collectively, "Exchange Securities") for Combined Units of the Fund (each Combined Unit consisting of one Unit of the Fund and one Warrant for one Unit).
Under the Exchange Option, the number of Combined Units issuable in exchange for Exchange Securities deposited by prospective purchasers was determined by dividing the weighted average trading price of the Exchange Securities on the Toronto Stock Exchange, The New York Stock Exchange or The NASDAQ Stock Market, as the case may be, during the three consecutive trading days ending on July 17, 2009, as adjusted to reflect dividends declared or distributions pending which will not be received by the Fund (such adjusted trading price being the "Exchange Price") by $12.00 (being the issue price of a Combined Unit).

Mar. 22--Florida's public-finance system for statewide campaigns could be headed to voters for repeal in 2010.
But state legislators are also trying to scale back the cash candidates can tap.
Besides pushing a repeal of the public finance system -- which voters would have to approve in 2010, taking effect after that election -- Sen. Mike Haridopolos, R-Indialantic, has added a new twist: language to scale back the spending lid to pre-2005 levels for the upcoming 2010 election cycle in a companion bill he's pushing.

Ralliers Support Cap on Oklahoma Property Tax Hikes

Mar. 19--Supporters of property tax reform filled the Capitol rotunda Wednesday afternoon in support of a Senate resolution that would cap the annual property tax increase at 3 percent.
Holding signs saying "How do you spell relief?
Property Tax Reform," and other slogans, nearly 60 people filled the rotunda to show support for Senate Joint Resolution 5, filed by Sen. Jim Reynolds, R-Oklahoma City.

PFD Could Fall to $68: PROJECTIONS: After $1,512 This Year, Next Few Years Look Measly.

Mar. 13--Permanent Fund dividends are expected to exceed $1,500 this year but likely will shrink sharply in subsequent years to as little as $68 in 2013, the fund's top manager told state legislators Thursday.
Mike Burns, executive director of the $27 billion oil-wealth savings account, laid out a 10-year projection of the size of dividends that Alaskans can expect.
The Senate resolution would ask voters to approve constitutional amendments allowing legislators annually to spend up to 5 percent of the Permanent Fund's market value on dividends and possibly other state expenses.

Shaw Communications Appoints New Lead Director

Canada's Shaw Communications has appointed Michael O'Brien as lead director to replace the Don Mazankowski who is retiring from the board and not standing for re-election at the company's annual shareholder meeting.
As lead director, Mr O'Brien will provide independent leadership to the board and maintain and enhance the quality of the company's corporate governance practices.
Mr O'Brien has been a member of Shaw's board since 2003 and served as audit committee chair since 2004.

Shaw Communications Inc. ("Shaw") (TSX: SJR.B) (NYSE: SJR) announced today the terms of an offering of C$650 million principal amount of 6.75% senior unsecured notes due 2039.

CALGARY, ALBERTA -- -- 06/26/09 -- Shaw Communications Inc. announced results for the third quarter ended May 31, 2009. Consolidated service revenue for the three and nine month periods of $861 million and $2.52 billion, respectively, was up 9% and 10% over the same periods last year. Service operating income before amortization of $395 million and $1.14 billion, respectively, improved 11% and 10% over the comparable periods. Funds flow from operations increased to $356 million and $1.00 billion for the quarter and year-to-date periods, respectively, compared to $311 million and $902 million in the same periods last year.[More...]
