HONG KONG, Jan. 29 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation ("SMIC", NYSE: SMI and SEHK: 0981.HK) today announced the appointment of Mr. Zhou Jie ("Mr. Zhou") as a non-executive director of the Company and the re-designation of Mr. Wang Zheng Gang ("Mr. Wang") from non-executive director to Alternate Director to Mr. Zhou, both with effect from 23 Jan 2009.

Jan. 16--U.S. TREASURY INVESTS $44 MILLION IN CADENCE: Cadence Financial Corp. has joined the list of banking companies with a Memphis presence that have received investments from the U.S. Treasury troubled asset recovery plan.
The Treasury bought $44 million worth of preferred stock and warrants in the Starkville, Miss.-based bank holding company on Friday, the department reported this week.
Cadence Bank has five branches in the Memphis area.

SM Group Grows Despite Economic Gloom

Aug. 15--SM Investments Corp. (SMIC) said Thursday that its first-half profit rose by double-digits on higher mall rentals and retail sales.
In a briefing, Jose Sio, SMIC executive vice president, said the holding company of the Sy family, posted a 14-percent growth in net income to P6.5 billion at end-June, as revenues increased 17 percent to P65.6 billion.
Sio said retail sales jumped 21 percent to P52.6 billion, while rental revenues from malls and other properties grew by 11.8 percent to P6.4 billion.
