Unless this turns into a full-blown pandemic, both of these represent a typical knee-jerk over-reaction by the markets, fueled by silly misinformation, hyped by the mainstream news media. There is another sector, however that is on fire at the moment. And it has nothing to do with pandemics. This little-known software sector has companies[More...]

Are Tech Stocks Expensive?

This weekend we ran the Alert HQ process and generated the list of Trend Leaders. These stocks and ETFs are distinguished by strong recent performance. Using daily data, we look for stocks that are over their 50-day moving average. We then use three different technical indicators to determine trend: Aroon, DMI and MACD. All three indicators must be registering strong readings in order for a stock or ETF to make the list of Trend Leaders. Below we present those stocks from the Tech sector that made this week's list. Data is as of the close on Friday, 3/20/09.
Smith Micro a Play on Cell Demand - Analyst Blog

Smith Micro Software Inc. (SMSI) is a developer of wireless communications software and utility software for multiple OS platforms. It has significant relationships with several large cellular providers and OEM cellphone manufacturers. Third quarter 2008 results were mixed, with revenue below our estimate while the EPS was above our expectations. We are encouraged by the company's growing top-line as well as bottom-line. We maintain our estimates for 2009, though the company did not provide guidance for it. Our rating remains a BUY with a target price of $12. The stock is currently selling at below the group averages. Since future earnings will be taxed, we feel that the PEG ratio should be closer to the group average. <a[More...]
