There is no doubt in my mind that we will eventually see $200 dollars for a bbl of oil, and $6 at the pump. If one has long tem equity to commit, the energy sector isn’t a bad way to go. Even Obama can’t stop it.[More...]

Stocks In Focus On Russell Global Index

IndexUniverse had an article up yesterday about the rebalancing at Russell Investments that occurs every June and was just implemented for 2009. IU seemed most interested in the increasing presence of Chinese stocks. The five largest stocks in the Russell Global Index (I'm not familiar with this one) in order are; Petrochina (PTR) ExxonMobil (XOM) Industrial & Commercial Bank of China (IDCBY) China Mobile (CHL) a client holding Walmart (WMT) We are all much more aware of China as an investment destination than we were seven years ago. I seem to remember that the first Chinese stock on the NYSE was Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical (SHI), but I may have that wrong, and then it seemed like most people knew[More...]

Our outlook for the machinery sector is increasingly one of caution. We are beginning to see U.S economic weakness and the credit crunch negatively impact International markets. Japan's machine orders have fallen for two consecutive months, with a huge 14.5% decline in August. China Petroleum & Chemical Corp., or Sinopec (SNP) plans to cut its oil imports for the fourth quarter of 2008, which portends of slower manufacturing activity ahead. As foreign economies deal with weaker exports to the U.S and Europe, industrial customers are cutting back on capital spending. Equipment orders are decelerating in almost every end market -- from machines used in construction, infrastructure, agriculture and base metal projects.<br[More...]

Moodys Corp. (MCO) has a solid franchise in the rating of debt instruments, and has diversified itself with credit research and international growth. This has helped the New York-based company offset declining ratings revenues, which fell 35% in the first half of 2008. However, Moody?s still remains cautious about the recovery in the credit market for the remainder of the year. The current credit crunch is impeding the U.S. economy, which may likely experience a recession as consumer confidence declines. The Federal Reserve has cut rates, however, many people have been shut out of the mortgage market and investors in subprime debt have dried up. Moreover, with inflation concerns, rates are likely to rise from current levels. Although debt markets will likely be slow to recover, comparisons will become easier in the fourth quarter, as[More...]
