Verisign, Inc. (VRSN) reported $303 million in revenues during Q2, up 17.1% y/y but down 14.4% q/q. Revenues from core business (Domain Names, SSL Certificates, and Identity and Authentication Services (IAS), came in at $233 million. GAAP EPS came in at ($0.35) for the quarter. Pro-forma EPS of $0.25 exceeded our estimate by $0.03. Core business generated a non-GAAP operating margin of 34.2%, up from 30.3% registered in Q1 2008. Growth in the naming business slowed down. The management provided Q3 revenue guidance of $236-241 million. They remain confident of exiting 2008 with an operating margin of 35%. VeriSign is trading at 31.7 times our reduced 2008 earnings estimate of $0.98 per share. A List of Best Performing Stocks Year to Date

Since we have a break in the action here, instead of doing our normal best performing stocks of the week (not many made the list this week due to a poor market), this is a good time to look at what is performing best so far this year. Further, due the composition of the list and with many of these stocks due for a correction it's probably worthwhile to take a look now, as things might change relatively soon. We looked at a similar list in early November (Nov 4: How to Make 75% in 3 Months) when the list was dominated by large cap Chinese stocks, a few big cap tech stocks, Indian stocks, and fertilizer. Except for fertilizer most of those groups stunk for the better part of the following 5 months, and hence "returned to the mean". Defense Agency to Test Alternative Fuel in Alaska

Mar. 20--The U.S. Defense Logistics Agency is developing a pilot program to supply a blend of alternative fuels to Air Force and Army units operating in Alaska, officials with the agency said March 11 at a conference in Anchorage.
Mark Iden, deputy operations director of the Defense Energy Support Center, a part of the Defense Logistics Agency, said his agency is soliciting proposals from industry to supply a 50-50 blend of alternative and conventional fuels.
The agency wants the alternative fuels made through the Fischer-Tropsch process, a chemical process that converts carbon-based material like biomass, natural gas or coal to high-quality liquid products.

Earnings attributable to shareholders for the six months ended 31 December 2008 increased by 45% to R13,2 billion from R9,1 billion in the prior year comparable period, while earnings per share and headline earnings per share increased by 47% to R22,17 and by 51% to R21,92, respectively, over the same period.
The increase in operating profit was partially reduced by the European Commission fine on Sasol Wax of R3 678 million (euro 318,2 million).
