As we’ve stated in earlier posts, the fundamentals have not improved enough to sustain this rally. San Antonio, Texas-based Tesoro Corporation (TSO) is an independent refiner and marketer of refined petroleum products in the western U.S. The company operates in two segments: Refining (accounted for 85% of the company s total 2007 operating income) and Retail (15%). We are maintaining our Buy recommendation for Tesoro shares ahead of the company's 4th-quarter 2008 results. Given our continued positive view of the group's underlying fundamentals, we believe there is potential for significant upside for this well positioned refining name. We particularly like Tesoro for its West-Coast leverage and strong balance sheet with the ability to fund capex with operating cash flows. 54 Stocks Returning 15%+ in January

As we exit the worst January ever, I thought it would be interesting to take a look at the best performers of the past month. Before we do, courtesy of Dshort.com this is a chart that has been passed around a lot in the investing community so I thought I'd share it. Two ways to read this - of the 4 great bear markets the past 100 years, 3 "ended" roughly where we are now... about a 50% loss in value from peak. That's the bullish view i.e. "can't get worse than this" and if we fall to S&P 750 (November lows) but never break through they will be correct. Two Custom Screens Yield Picks From The Oil Patch

This post looks at the results of combining several of the stock screens that we ran this weekend at TradeRadar. We executed the usual weekend Alert HQ process (read about this weeks results) and generated several lists of stocks based on our special screens including: Bollinger Band Breakouts, Trend Leaders and Cash Flow Kings (you can download these lists at the Trend Leaders page). Trend Leaders represents a collection of stocks in strong up-trends. These stocks are registering strong signals using Aroon analysis, DMI and MACD. They are also above their 50-day exponential moving average. To obtain the list of Cash Flow Kings we calculate the free cash flow yield of all the stocks we scan and pick the ones whose yield is 50% or greater.[More...]

We are maintaining our Buy recommendation, but lowering our estimates and price objective for San Antonio-based Tesoro Corporation (TSO) -- an independent refiner and marketer of refined petroleum products in the western U.S. -- to reflect the still-challenging refining margin environment. Our new 2009 EPS estimate is $1.27, down from $2.30 before, while our 2008 estimate remains unchanged. Despite the near-term challenges, our long-term view of the business remains favorable as we believe that the company is in a good position with a strong balance sheet, and has the ability to fund capex (capital expenditures) with operating cash flows. On October 29, Tesoro reported robust third-quarter 2008 recurring earnings of $1.63 per diluted share, compared to $0.40 per diluted share in the year-earlier quarter. May 28--MANATEE -- A new bank has cropped up on the Bradenton landscape with an eye toward opportunity as the real estate market mends itself.
New York-based Trustco Bank opened a new branch at 5858 Cortez Road W. on April 28.
"We have 39 branches at this point down there, concentrated around the greater Orlando area and down the West Coast," said Kevin T. Timmons, Trustco vice president and treasurer.
