Like most media companies, Providence-based LIN TV Corp. (TVL:NYSE), owner and operator of 27 television stations including WPRI-TV Channel 12, is feeling the impact of the recession.
Revenues were off 4 percent to $104.2 million, from $108.6 million a year ago.
"We are operating in a severe recessive economy and the financial distress on automakers, as well as the significant declines in consumer and business spending, are negatively impacting television advertising sales," said Vincent L. Sadusky, president and chief executive officer.

Time Warner Cable and Viacom reach deal

LOS ANGELES - Millions of Time Warner Cable customers won't lose their access to MTV and 18 other channels after the cable giant reached an agreement early Thursday with media conglomerate Viacom Inc.
The two sides, citing disagreement over fee hikes, had threatened a damaging blackout at a minute past midnight Thursday that would have cut off shows such as "SpongeBob SquarePants" and "The Colbert Report" to about 15.7 million subscribers.
"We are pleased that our customers will continue to be able to watch the customers will continue to be able to watch the programming they enjoy on MTV Networks," said Glenn Britt, president and CEO of Time Warner Cable Inc. "We are sorry they had to endure a day of public disagreement as we worked through this negotiation."

Net revenues decreased 18% to $81.4 million, compared to $98.8 million in the third quarter of 2008.

General operating expenses decreased 9% from $69.8 million in the first quarter 2008, to $63.3 million in the first quarter 2009, reflecting the benefit of the 2008 restructuring, as well as other cost -- saving measures implemented in 2009.
