Four Key Sectors Struggle

While I still have at least one and a half feet placed firmly in the bull camp, I am increasingly concerned with a number of signs from some key technical indicators. Near the top of my list of concerns is market breadth, as measured by the McClellan Summation Index and other similar market breadth indicators. The bottom line is that if the indices continue to advance on the strength of a narrow base of rising stocks while the majority of issues move sideways or decline, then the rally will have trouble sustaining itself.[More...]

Dave Fry's Comments for May 20

MARKET COMMENT May 20, 2009 Wall Street has deals to get done and they were excited about BAC’s secondary this morning. The way these things work is simple: if you’re an institution, you better play ball and buy or you’re cut out of future deals you might really like. So we opened higher amid this enthusiasm and the bad news from HPQ last night was brushed-off. That’s the way it’s been with news—front burner it, back burner it and repeat.[More...]

MARKET COMMENT September 29, 2008 The markets gave a Bronx Cheer to the bailout proposal “before” there was even a congressional vote today. After the vote failure the ongoing sell-off intensified. My understanding, based on news reports, is that Speaker Pelosi made a tactless Bush-bashing speech before the vote took place needlessly offending wavering republicans. Now she will have to “make nice” and resistant republicans will no doubt I understand vote for the bill.[More...]
