This is a day and age where the price of a stock or a commodity (think oil, natural gas, gold, silver) can turn on a dime. In a New York minute big gains can be erased. All it takes is some guru dropping a hint or emitting a smelly piece of gossip about a company or a natural resource and in one session (or in one hour) we might see a 10%, 20% or 50% turnaround in the price.[More...]

THE NOT BAD...THE HORRIBLE...AND THE HIDEOUS!That pretty well describes last week in MLP land. I've been reading anything and everything i can get my hands on with regards to everything that has happened last week and i think we need to step back for a few minutes and realize a few facts.1. The rally in MLPS took us to a place of overvaluation. The MLP index ran from 270 to 340 in 10 months with barely a pullback. That is a 26 percent gain plus 4 distributions giving you an annual return of over 32%. Now at 298 we're up 8% plus distributions or annual return of 15%...much more reasonable.2. All through this selloff there has not been a single corporate developement that i could find that has driven any of this selloff. In fact we've seen good earnings, distribution increases, buy recommendations by some of the brok[More...]

Most Major Barnett Shale Pipelines Already in Place, Exec Says

Mar. 6--The sharp slowdown in Barnett Shale drilling not only means that the big natural gas field will peak earlier than expected but also that most of the major pipelines aimed at moving gas out of the field are already in place, the chief of one of the nation's biggest pipeline companies said Thursday.

But "probably 80 or 90 percent of the capital spending" on big transmission lines to distant trading hubs has been done, said Davis, who made his remarks at an energy investment conference sponsored by the Texas Christian University Energy Institute.

Davis estimated that the Barnett Shale's takeaway capacity -- the amount of natural gas that pipelines can carry -- stands at 5.5 billion to 6 billion cubic feet a day, or Bcf. That's compared with producers' and analysts' estimates of 4.6 to 5 Bcf a day at year's end.
