Watching The Grass Grow

I haven't had to much to post during the past few days. With the market range-bound and seemingly tired, yet unwilling to selloff, few charts seem truly inspiring either long or short. In my account, I continue to hold many of the same short positions I've had for several weeks, focused on insurers, some financial stocks, retailers, etc. I've had mixed results on the shorts, but will continue to hold since I think we'll trade lower than the current level at some point reasonably soon. Looking the other direction, I am holding high cash levels, with long positions primarily in commodity areas and semiconductor stocks. Welcome back from the weekend! As the rest of the market returns from the holiday break, we should see more volume and volatility creep back into stocks. Only tomorrow will tell as to whether or not this is a positive or a negative for stock prices. At the moment, futures prices are trading slightly lower. The Dow is off by 44 points, the S&P down 5 points, and the Nasdaq is down 7 points. Crude oil is up another buck, trading at $47.30. I am finding more charts that look good on the long side, although most would benefit from a low volume pullback. Norwalk, Conn., Schools Reverses Budget Cut, Keeps Pool Open

Aug. 5--NORWALK -- Members of the Norwalk Facilities Construction Commission were updated Tuesday afternoon on the newly developed plan to keep the Norwalk High School pool in operation.
Earlier this year, the Board of Education cut from its 2009-10 operating budget money to operate the pool -- part of larger budget cuts by the city amid the recession.
The plan to keep the pool going entails reducing operating costs, principally electricity, and gaining a revenue stream by charging organizations that use the pool, according to Mark Gorian, director of facilities and maintenance for Norwalk Public Schools.
