Corning Introduces Integrated Liquid-Handling Accessory for the Epic® System

Enables automated label-free biochemical and cell-based assays

Corning Incorporated today announced the introduction of an automated liquid-handling accessory (LHA) that integrates with the Corning® Epic® System for high-throughput label-free assays.

"Corning developed this innovative accessory to meet the increasing demand for integrated liquid-handling capability with label-free assays," said Ron Verkleeren, business director, Corning Epic System. "This new accessory provides our Epic customers with the added benefit of automated liquid handling and plate stacking in an easy-to-use, compact footprint."

The Epic LHA includes a 384-well pipettor, a microplate stacker that can handle up to 20 lidded 384-well microplates and an automated tip wash station. The liquid-handling system has been designed to maintain thermal stability in order to eliminate artifacts from laboratory temperature fluctuations.

The Corning Epic System is the world's first high-throughput label-free drug discovery system. It uses patented optical biosensor technology to perform label-free biochemical and cell-based assays. The system is sensitive enough to measure the cell response from endogenous receptor expression on primary or non-engineered cell lines, along with protein/drug direct binding events in biochemical assays. It has been sold and deployed to customer sites in North America, Europe and Asia since its launch in 2006.

Corning Unveils ClearCurve™ Product Suite Optimized for European MDU Market

Revolutionary optical fiber, cable, hardware and equipment solution based on Corning  nanostructures technology

Corning Incorporated today unveiled its ClearCurve™ optical fiber-based product suite optimized for the European market at the Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) Conference in Paris. Corning's ClearCurve solution was first introduced last October during the U.S. FTTH Conference in Orlando, Fla. The product suite helps overcome the installation challenges in multiple-dwelling units (MDUs) by providing a bend-insensitive fiber optimized for the strenuous deployment conditions seen in these complexes.

Corning is presenting its new ClearCurve riser cable assembly and drop cable at the Paris show. These products help solve the historical technical challenges faced by telecommunications carriers installing FTTH networks in European high-rise apartment buildings and MDUs. This solution is based on Corning's ClearCurve optical fiber which features the company's revolutionary nanoStructures™ fiber design. With this design the optical fiber maintains its signal strength when bent or curved, with performance results 100 times better than standard single-mode fibers and an order of magnitude better than other backwards-compatible bend fibers. The new fiber also enables simpler and more aesthetically pleasing designs for cable, hardware and equipment in MDU deployments.
