ITC Administrative Law Judge Rules in Favor of Qualcomm in Tessera Matter

Qualcomm today announced that an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) of the U.S. International Trade Commission made an initial determination that Qualcomm's chip packages do not infringe two patents owned by Tessera and found that the patents are valid.

Qualcomm To Enable Skyhook Wi-Fi Positioning on gpsOne Platform

Skyhook Wireless, maker of the Wi-Fi Positioning System (WPS) and XPS 2.0 hybrid positioning system, today announced that Qualcomm Incorporated, the leading wireless provider of GPS and Assisted GPS (A-GPS ) technology platforms, now has a license to distribute Skyhook's WPS and incorporate the technology into its gpsOne® positioning technology platforms. Skyhook's WPS solution will deliver Wi-Fi positioning for gpsOne and enable hybrid location positioning capabilities on select future platforms.

Industry Rallies around Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Platform to Enable Mobile Computing Devices

Qualcomm Incorporated today announced that the Company's Snapdragon™ platform continues to gain industry traction with more than 30 device designs in development using Snapdragon chipsets. More than 15 leading device manufacturers are looking to Qualcomm's Snapdragon platform to enable mobile computing devices, which blend the best of the Smartphone and laptop computing categories to finally deliver on the promise of mobile Internet. According to independent industry research, this market segment is forecasted to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of more than 80% over the next several years. The first Snapdragon devices are expected to be launched by customers in the first half of next year.

Qualcomm Opens Asia Pacific Test Center of Excellence in Singapore

Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of advanced wireless technologies and data solutions, today announced the opening of its Asia Pacific Test Center of Excellence in Singapore. The Center is Qualcomm's first test development center outside of the United States, and it will enable Singapore to become a development hub for the region. By having test centers in two opposite time zones-San Diego and Singapore-Qualcomm will create an around-the-clock engineering support system that will significantly shorten the evaluation cycles for its new digital and radio frequency wireless technologies, thereby hastening their time to market. Qualcomm's Asia Pacific Test Center will carry out design verification and failure analysis for Qualcomm's new products and technologies designed in its design centers in India, China, Taiwan, Korea and San Diego. The Center will also engage in independent development of new technologies and products, in addition to pre-production sampling of early product introductions.

Qualcomm and Amobee Media Systems Work Together to Fuel Mobile Internet

Qualcomm Incorporated and Amobee Media Systems, the world leader in advertising solutions for mobile operators, today announced that they are working together to offer mobile advertising on Qualcomm's Plaza solution. Amobee and Qualcomm completed an integration of Amobee's ad-serving platform with Plaza that now enables advertising to be fed into Plaza's ecosystem of widgets. Qualcomm and Foxlink Sign 3G CDMA Module/Modem Card License Agreement

Qualcomm Incorporated and Cheng Uei Precision Industry Co., Ltd., (Foxlink) a leading developer and manufacturer of communications devices, computers and consumer electronics, today announced that they have entered into a module/modem card patent license agreement. Under the terms of the royalty bearing agreement, Qualcomm has granted Foxlink a worldwide patent license to develop, manufacture and sell modules and modem cards implementing the CDMA2000®, WCDMA and/or TD-SCDMA standards. The royalties payable by Foxlink are at Qualcomm's standard worldwide rates.

Qualcomm and Wingtech Sign 3G CDMA Subscriber Unit and Module/Modem Card License Agreement

Qualcomm Incorporated and Jiaxing Wingtech Communication Technology Co., Ltd. (Wingtech), a Chinese mobile terminals company, announced that they have entered into a subscriber unit and module/modem card (including PCB assemblies) patent license agreement. Under the terms of the royalty bearing agreement, Qualcomm has granted Wingtech a worldwide patent license to develop, manufacture and sell subscriber units, modules and modem cards (including PCB assemblies) implementing the CDMA2000® standard. The royalties payable by Wingtech are at Qualcomm's standard worldwide rates.

Federal Court of Appeals Vacates ITC Exclusion Order

Qualcomm Incorporated today announced that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit vacated a finding by the International Trade Commission (ITC) that Qualcomm induced infringement of a Broadcom patent related to a battery-saving feature. In an opinion issued today, the Court also held that the ITC lacks the statutory authority to ban products made by downstream users of Qualcomm's chips who were not named in Broadcom's complaint. The Court noted that Broadcom knew the identities of all of Qualcomm's customers, but chose not to name them in the action.

Qualcomm Announces In-Cab Scanning Service

Qualcomm Incorporated today announced its In-Cab Scanning service, a new addition to the OmniVisionSM Transportation suite of services. This end-to-end service enables drivers to scan and transmit important documents such as trip and mileage reports, bills of lading, timesheets, receipts and other critical information. These activities can be performed immediately and from the cab of the truck, improving driver productivity by eliminating the need to search for truck stops with scanners. In-Cab Scanning also helps increase the pace of the business cycle for carriers. Data is received in minutes, rather than hours, which can speed up billing and other business processes for faster payment and improved operational performance. The time-consuming process of making extra stops to copy, scan, fax or mail documents is eliminated, which helps to improve productivity, profitability and drivers' quality of life.

Firethorn Announces Reseller Relationship with Fifth Third Processing Solutions

Leading mobile commerce enabler Firethorn Holdings, LLC, a Qualcomm company today announced that it has entered into an agreement with Fifth Third Processing Solutions to bring mobile banking services to its 2,880 financial institutions. As part of the relationship, Fifth Third Processing Solutions will offer Firethorn's products to its processing financial institution clients, leveraging existing integration and connectivity to deploy Firethorn's mobile application. Fifth Third Processing Solutions plans to make the service available to its financial institutions before the end of the year.

Federal District Court Rules on Alleged Violations of Injunction

Qualcomm Incorporated today announced that the District Court for the Central District of California issued a ruling on Broadcom's motion to find Qualcomm in contempt of various aspects of the Court's December 31, 2007 injunction ruling arising from the underlying trial last May. While the Court found that Qualcomm had not violated the order on most of the issues raised by Broadcom, and while the Court declined to enjoin Qualcomm from continuing to make and sell WCDMA chips that implement a design around, the Court did find certain violations. While Qualcomm appreciates that the Court found in favor of Qualcomm on most issues, it will appeal those issues on which the Court has ruled against it.

Qualcomm and HuaQin Sign a CDMA2000 Subscriber Unit License Agreement

Qualcomm Incorporated and Shanghai HuaQin Telecom Technology Co. Ltd. (HuaQin), today announced that they have entered into a subscriber unit license agreement. Under the terms of the royalty bearing agreement, Qualcomm has granted HuaQin a worldwide license under its patent portfolio to develop, manufacture and sell CDMA2000® subscriber units and modem cards (including Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Assemblies for sale to other device suppliers). The royalties payable by HuaQin are at Qualcomm's standard rates.

Qualcomm Announces Leadership Changes and Promotions

Qualcomm Incorporated announced today that Dr. Sanjay Jha, chief operating officer and president of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies (QCT), is leaving Qualcomm and will become co-CEO of Motorola, Inc. and CEO of Motorola Mobile Devices. Len Lauer, executive vice president of Qualcomm and group president, is promoted to chief operating officer and Steve Mollenkopf, executive vice president of QCT, is promoted to president of QCT. Qualcomm Incorporated and MYWAVE Electronics S.p.A. (MYWAVE), an Italian electronics company, today announced that they have entered into a module/modem card patent license agreement. Under the terms of the royalty bearing agreement, Qualcomm has granted MYWAVE a worldwide license to develop, manufacture and sell modem cards and modules implementing the WCDMA and/or TD-SCDMA standards. The royalties payable by MYWAVE are at Qualcomm's standard worldwide rates and are the same irrespective of which CDMA standard is implemented by the module or modem card.

Qualcomm Announces Financial Guidance for the Fourth Fiscal Quarter and Fiscal Year Ending September 28, 2008



 Based on the current business outlook, and prior to accounting for the recently announced Nokia settlement agreement, we anticipate fourth fiscal quarter Qualcomm pro forma revenues to be approximately $2.5 to $2.7 billion and Qualcomm pro forma diluted earnings per share (EPS) to be approximately $0.49 to $0.51. Our current estimate is based on the shipment of approximately 84 to 87 million Mobile Station Modem™ (MSM™) chips during the quarter, compared to approximately 68 million MSM chips shipped during the year ago quarter. We estimate June quarter shipments of approximately 114 to 118 million CDMA devices (CDMA2000® and WCDMA) at an estimated average selling price of approximately $215 per unit. Approximately 89 million CDMA devices were shipped in the year ago quarter.

Qualcomm Raises Financial Guidance for the Third Fiscal Quarter of 2008

Based on the current business outlook, we now anticipate third fiscal quarter Qualcomm pro forma revenues to be slightly above the high end of the prior guidance of approximately $2.5 to $2.7 billion. We now anticipate third fiscal quarter Qualcomm pro forma diluted earnings per share to be approximately $0.54 to $0.55, compared to our prior estimate of approximately $0.50 to $0.52. Our current estimate is based on the shipment of approximately 86 million Mobile Station Modem™ (MSM™) chips during the quarter as compared to our prior estimate of 85 to 88 million units.

Tata Indicom Announces Plans to Deploy First A-GPS Location-Based Service in India

Tata Teleservices, India's fastest-growing telecom service provider, today announced that it will commercially deploy a new location-based service that is the first to use Qualcomm's Assisted GPS  (A-GPS ) technology in the Indian market. Qualcomm Opens Office in Dubai Internet City

Qualcomm Incorporated today affirmed its commitment to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) markets with the opening of a new branch office in Dubai. Qualcomm Acquires Assets of Ronda and Increases Its Presence in Spain and Portugal

Qualcomm Enterprise Services Europe BV, a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated and a leading provider of business-to-business wireless enterprise applications and services, today announced that is has acquired substantially all the assets of Madrid-based Ronda Grupo Consultor, S.L., a leading provider in the development, establishment and operation of fleet management systems (FMS) for the transportation and logistics industry in Spain and Portugal. The acquisition allows for the combination of Ronda's local market knowledge and presence to enhance Qualcomm's European fleet management operations.

Qualcomm Increases Quarterly Dividend and Announces New $2.0 Billion Stock Repurchase Program

Qualcomm Incorporated today announced that its Board of Directors has approved a 14% increase in the Company's quarterly cash dividend and, effective immediately, a new $2.0 billion stock repurchase program to replace its previous $3.0 billion stock repurchase program, which had $2 million of remaining availability. The dividend will increase from $0.14 to $0.16 per share of common stock and will be effective for quarterly dividends payable after March 28, 2008. This dividend increase raises the annual dividend to $0.64 per share of common stock.

Qualcomm Acquires Xiam Technologies Limited, Leading Provider of Wireless Content Discovery and Recommendations Technology

Qualcomm Incorporated today announced that it has acquired Xiam Technologies Limited (Xiam), an Ireland-based pioneer of wireless content targeting solutions. Xiam's My Personal Offers System (MPOS) provides targeting and personalization technology that accelerates discovery and individualizes the user experience by presenting relevant content offers and advertisements to consumers. Qualcomm will pay approximately $32 million for Xiam and estimates the acquisition will be neutral to FY08 earnings per share.

UK High Court Makes Finding of Invalidity in Qualcomm’s 2G Patent Dispute with Nokia

Qualcomm Incorporated today announced that the United Kingdom (UK) High Court has handed down judgment in a case filed by Qualcomm against Nokia in May 2006. The case involves Nokia's GSM /GPRS /EDGE-only handsets (i.e., GSM/GPRS/EDGE handsets that do not also implement WCDMA) and two of Qualcomm's patents that cover certain power saving and power control technologies. The UK High Court ruled that, although the Nokia accused products included the patented technologies, the power saving patent is invalid and that the power control patent is partially valid but, insofar as it is valid, is not infringed by Nokia. Qualcomm is actively considering whether to seek permission from the UK court to amend the patents and appeal the decision.

International Trade Commission Will Not Review Administrative Law Judge’s Initial Determination In Patent Infringement Complaint Filed by Qualcomm Against Nokia

Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of advanced wireless technologies and data solutions, today announced that the International Trade Commission (ITC) will not review Administrative Law Judge Paul J. Luckern's initial determination (ID) that Nokia's GSM /GPRS /EDGE-only handsets (i.e., GSM/GPRS/EDGE handsets that do not also implement WCDMA ) do not infringe three Qualcomm patents. The action relates to 2G products and is not related to Nokia's WCDMA or “3G”products that are at issue in other cases. Qualcomm will decide whether to appeal the ITC decision to the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Qualcomm filed a complaint against Nokia with the International Trade Commission in June 2006.

Qualcomm Introduces Next-Generation Solution for a Better Bluetooth Experience

Qualcomm Incorporated today announced the latest addition to its line of Bluetooth solutions which delivers an enhanced user experience and significant advantages for handset manufacturers. Bluetooth technology provides short-range wireless connectivity between handsets headsets and other Bluetooth-enabled devices. Qualcomm's new BTS4025™ system-on-a-chip (SoC) - which is now sampling - offers full support for the latest Bluetooth 2.1 + Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) specification, as well as improved radio-frequency performance in a significantly smaller, more power-efficient package than previous Bluetooth chips. The technology innovations found in the BTS4025 SoC enable better Bluetooth performance, which can now be more readily available in mid- to low-tier handsets requiring lower costs and smaller form factor solutions.

Qualcomm to Ship Industry’s First Multi-mode LTE Chipsets in 2009

Qualcomm Incorporated today announced that it has expanded its device chipset roadmap to include Long Term Evolution (LTE). The new family of three multi-mode Mobile Data Modem™ (MDM™) chipsets will deliver significant flexibility to the industry by supporting LTE, as well as other 3GPP and 3GPP2 standards. The MDM9xxx-series chipsets will allow UMTS and CDMA2000® operators to upgrade seamlessly to future LTE services while preserving backward compatibility to their existing 3G  UMTS and CDMA2000 networks. The LTE solutions are scheduled to sample in the second quarter of 2009.
